Domestic Violence Australia: Aurora App

I’d like to take a brief moment to hopefully spread a little awareness of a neat little app (for iphone, but I downloaded it to my ipad anyway) called Aurora.

It’s a government app for both victims of domestic violence AND friends or family concerned that someone they love may be experiencing this. This neat little app has a few really awesome features including:

Help defining the various ways that domestic violence can be exhibited.

Helpful guides on what can be done to prevent the situation from escalating, including help on how to keep yourself (and your children) safe, and what others can do to help.

A wide variety of services and support for the varying issues that may arise, including financial, housing, legal and counseling.

And a Get Help section from immediate support, including police and the national Domestic Violence Hotline, which is 24 hours and completely anonymous. There is also a section to add a list of family and friends, people who you trust and may need or want to message collectively if you need help, such as being incapable of ringing the police yourself.

It will even connect to the internet and attain your location, meaning that those trusted people can get help to you as quickly as possible.

Considering that one in four women in Australia experience domestic violence, and every third victim is male, please take the time to reblog this. I had a look through the apps to see if I could find anything more national/international, but even outside of that it does have a guide for if you are out of New South Wales, as well.

Take care of yourselves.
